Ga. Family Meets Woman Who Received Their Teen Son’s Heart

A Georgia family who lost their teenage son in a car wreck the day before his graduation met the woman who received his heart.

WSB-TV reports 18-year-old Zachary Harrison died a year ago when a car he was a passenger in crashed the day before his graduation from Newnan High School. Harrison’s father, Robert, told the station he and his wife Tonya decided to donate their son’s organs.

Kayla Monteil of Gainesville received his heart.

The Harrisons met Monteil a few weeks ago and were able to hear their son’s heart beat in her chest. The families came together Wednesday at Atlanta Medical Center to share the importance of organ donation. The hospital raised a flag in Harrison’s honor.

Monteil plans to pursue a career in nursing, helping transplant patients
