Ga. Officials Prepare For Election Day In 6th District Race
More than 80,500 people in Fulton County took advantage of early voting – more than a third of the county’s 216,000 registered voters who live in the 6th District.

As Georgia’s 6th District voters get ready to decide between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel, H. Maxine Daniels, the director of voter registrations and elections for DeKalb County, is making the final preparations for tomorrow.
“There’s a little bit of concern about security with some of the things that have happened in recent times, and so we are beefing up security throughout the district,” Daniels said.
The high-profile election brings a challenge, according to Cobb County Elections Director Janine Eveler.
“Because there’s been so much publicity about this election, folks don’t realize that not everyone in the county, or in Georgia, can vote in this election,” Eveler said.
Fulton County Elections Director Richard Barron said a record number of early voters have already cast ballots. More than 80,500 people in Fulton County took advantage of early voting. That’s more than a third of the county’s 216,000 registered voters who live in the 6th District. Because of this, Barron believes Election Day will be more manageable.
“What I see happening Tuesday is that we might have another 30,000 people vote,” Barron said.
Democrat Jon Ossoff is trying to win a district that has been in Republican hands since 1978. Sen. Johnny Isakson and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich are among those who have represented the 6th District in the House of Representatives.
Polls open Tuesday at 7 a.m., and will close at 7 p.m.
