Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal Won’t Commit To Veto Of Campus Guns Bill

Georgia’s governor stopped short of threatening to veto a bill lifting a weapons ban on the state’s public college campuses.
Gov. Nathan Deal said Tuesday he thinks lawmakers can make changes before adjourning next week. He says he’ll have to make a veto decision “when the time comes” if lawmakers don’t follow up.
Deal’s office in a statement Monday called for follow-up bills responding to concerns about K-12 students enrolled in college courses and day care centers on campuses.
He also wants flexibility for higher education officials to set rules about firearms at disciplinary hearings and inside faculty or administrative offices.
The state Senate on Friday sent a bill to Deal allowing licensed gun owners who are 21 and older to carry concealed weapons on public college campuses.
