It’s the end of another week at the state Capitol, but most of the attention wasn’t on lawmaking.

Qualifying was underway for November’s midterm elections. Candidates from all over the state showed up at the Gold Dome and plunked down their money to officially enter any number of races.

Georgians will elect a new governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state and attorney general. Every office in the state Legislature is also up for grabs, and many of those races will be competitive for the first time in years.

WABE’s politics and government reporter Johnny Kauffman joined Denis O’Hayer on “Morning Edition” to talk about how the races are shaping up.
