Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says this is the lowest that rate has fallen to since December 2007.

“The labor force participation rate continues to go up.  And we’re also continuing to see employers create jobs.  The number of jobs hit about what we’ve been averaging over the last three years.  About 9,500 jobs in March,” Butler said.

Georgia has gained more than 131,000 jobs since March 2016.

Butler says there’s been a lot of growth in a number of fields.

“One of the ones that stands out the most is construction.  It continues to lead as far as percentage growth over all sectors,” Butler said. “Close behind that you have some other sectors like business services.”

The number of initial claims for unemployment rose by nearly 3 percent last month.

The DOL says most of that hike comes from temporary claims in manufacturing.
