Your Guide To The 2018 Bacon Fest In Atlanta

Ready for bacon, beer, games, festival fun – and more bacon? Then Saturday’s annual Bacon Fest, held by Dad’s Garage, is just for you.

March is nearly over, which means Bacon Fest is just around the corner.

Dad’s Garage will be holding its annual gluttonous fundraiser on Saturday at the grounds adjacent to its theater space in the Old Fourth Ward.

Created with the same off-kilter perspective that you’ll find at a typical Dad’s Garage show, Bacon Fest provides a refreshingly tongue-in-cheek approach to the festival experience.

This year’s festival will be packed to the brim with unlimited bacon, beer, games and some truly outrageous festival experiences concocted by the hilarious minds at Dad’s Garage.

Here’s what you can expect at this year’s event:

Who’s It For?

Bacon Fest is a 21+ event, so please leave the kids (and dogs) at home. The festival is created and run by the staff members and improvisers at Dad’s Garage, so it will appeal to fans of Atlanta’s award-winning theater company that’s been doling out absurd improvised and scripted comedy shows for over 20 years. With that said, an irreverent sense of humor is recommended and encouraged to make the most of the festival.

Food And Libations

As the name suggests, Bacon Fest is centered on the excess consumption of swine. Come hungry because your ticket includes access to bottomless (aka unlimited) bacon, which will be provided in abundance. In addition to unending access to bacon, the festival will also be offering a lineup of Sierra Nevada beers including Pale Ale, Tropical Torpedo, Otra Vez and Summer Fest. As with the bacon, beer is unlimited upon festival entry.

Festival Highlights

Having been dreamed up by the theater that brought Atlanta shows like “The Change: Not Another Teenage Werewolf Musical” and the “Cage Match” improv show, Bacon Fest will fill the afternoon with some hilarious and slightly salacious takes on typical festival fare. This year you can expect to see the usual boozy offerings like Flip Cup, Battle Shots and Hobo Wine Tasting (advertised as “the finest wines $2.50 can buy,” this booth pairs bottom shelf liquor with Easy Cheese and Ritz crackers for a truly one-of-a-kind cultural experience).

Bacon Fest will also feature an assortment of booths and games that feature the unique “talents” of some Dad’s Garage improvisers. Visit the untrained artists at Terrible Caricatures to find out what you would look like if drawn by a toddler. For a midday self-esteem pick-me-up, Karen at Karen’s Compliments will tell you everything she likes about you. Curious about your future? The amazingly unskilled Mistress Scraps: Fortune Teller will dazzle you with the inaccuracy of her predictions.

If you’re in the mood for some interactive fun, you can partake in an assortment of games and activities like Improvised Dungeons and Dragons (a fan-favorite Dad’s Garage Show), Naughty Face Painting and the Wheelchair Obstacle Course, plus classic lawn games like Cornhole and Giant Jenga.

Tickets, Transportation and Parking

Tickets are $50 and include unlimited access to beer, bacon and all festival games and activities. They can be purchased from the festival website. Bacon Fest will be held right next to the Dad’s Garage Theatre at 569 Ezzard St. in the Old Fourth Ward.

There will be no designated festival parking available, so we recommend using MARTA or a ride-sharing service such as Lyft or Uber. Dad’s Garage is also less than a half-mile from the BeltLine, so festival attendees can easily walk to the event by way of the trail.
