What is it about Nat King Cole’s voice, piano virtuosity and songwriting that is so timeless? It is hard to overstate Cole’s contribution to American music and culture and impossible to estimate the depth of his influence on musicians of all genres.

March 17 marked the 100 anniversary of Cole’s birth.

To commemorate Nat King Cole’s centennial year, “City Lights with Lois Reitzes” will host conversations with musicians and scholars about the legacy of Cole’s artistry.

In this third installment remembering Cole, Reitzes speaks with the host of WABE’s Blues Classics and Jazz Classics, H Johnson about what made Nat King Cole a singer who could just as easily coax a tear as a smile.
