Hartsfield-Jackson Filled with Last-Minute Travelers
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport was filled Monday with those making the dash in and out of Atlanta before Christmas.
One of those heading of town at the last minute was 51-year-old Curtis Bun. Standing near a Christmas tree, Bun waited in line for a ticket to visit his family in Washington D.C.
“You don’t get to see family as much when you live this far away from them, so the opportunity to go home before Christmas really at this time of year means a lot.”
Others arrived from out of town. 21-year-old Alexander Montero, a Private in the U.S. Army, was greeted with clapping and a hug from his mother as he arrived from Fort Drum in New York State.
“It’s the best feeling ever, because you get to reconnect with your family, see everybody from your friends and family.”
But it’s also bittersweet, because Montero is leaving for Afghanistan in January.
“It’s going to be tough not seeing family, times where you’re going to be busy training and helping people. I’m just trying to make the best out of it I can.”
Airport officials say five million passengers are expected to travel through Hartsfield-Jackson in the 21 days around Christmas.
