How And Where To Register To Vote In The 6th District Runoff

Those wishing to vote in the 6th Congressional District runoff and have not registered have until May 21 to do so.
A federal judge last week ordered the state of Georgia to re-open registration for the June 20 runoff between Republican Karen Handel and Democrat Jon Ossoff.
In a special election that already has drawn nationwide attention and may become the most expensive U.S. House race ever, a surge of new voter applications has come right before what’s expected to be a close finish.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that elections offices in DeKalb, Fulton and Cobb are experiencing a backlog of applications numbering in the tens of thousands. It’s unclear how many of them are from residents who live in the 6th District portions of those counties.
Handel blasted the judge’s ruling, telling supporters that “this is going to boil your blood.” The lawsuit that spurred the decision, she said, “is a partisan attempt to change the rules.”
The groups who filed the suit argued that would-voters would have been “denied a full and fair opportunity to register and vote” in the runoff.
Voter registration can be completed online via the Georgia Secretary of State’s website or by visiting the Cobb, DeKalb and Fulton elections sites, or by applying at those offices in person.
According to the Georgia Secretary of State’s website, all persons living in the 6th District and who are registered by May 21 will be eligible to vote in the runoff. The early voting period is May 30-June 16.
Voter registration has closed for another special election runoff. In State Senate District 32, which includes East Cobb and some of north Fulton, Democrat Christine Triebsch is facing Republican Kay Kirkpatrick next Tuesday, May 16. Early voting concludes on Friday.
