President Donald Trump’s executive order on refugees and immigration has inspired controversy around the globe and across the nation, and further stretched divisions in American politics.
While some public officials quickly expressed support of the actions, and some expressed disapproval of the way in which the actions were carried out, others participated in nationwide protests against the ban, which temporarily suspends the arrival of refugees and immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries, and indefinitely bans refugees from Syria.
A total of 262 congressional officials, mostly Democrat, have expressed disapproval of the executive order, a majority over the 150, all Republican, who said they approved of the action. Others either issued no statement or issued statements with unclear opinions. In Georgia, eight of the state’s U.S. lawmakers were in favor of the executive order, with three disapproving and four either giving no statement or an unclear opinion.
