Hundreds Of Officers Will Be Present At The Peacthree Road Race

About 60,000 people will take part in what’s often referred to as the world’s largest 10K.

The 49th AJC Peachtree Road Race starts at 6:25 Wednesday morning when the Wheelchair athletes are the first to hit the course.

Scott Kreher, with the Atlanta Police Department, said law enforcement officials top concern is keeping runners and spectators safe. But they are also mindful of the heat and humidity.

“We’ve got not only public safety concerns with the actual physical security of the route but we also have a huge contingency for medical stAbout 60,000 people will take part in what’s often referred to as the world’s largest 10K.

aff,” he said. “We also have to make sure we have proper medical care for anybody that needs it.”

Kreher said there will be a number of security checkpoints set up around the course. He said they are expecting some 200,000 spectators to be at the race Wednesday.

With that, law enforcement officials are going to rely on the public to help keep people safe.

“If they see something that seems out of place or shouldn’t be there or any concerns at all, please don’t hesitate to call 911,” he said. “Let us know what they see because the public is an important part of this safety plan.”

Atlanta police officials also encourage people who want to watch the race to use MARTA because of road closures around the course.

Kreher said some 500 officers will be present and they are partnering with county and federal officials.
