Indigo Girl Emily Saliers Goes Solo On ‘Murmuration Nation’
Emily Saliers is best known as one-half of The Indigo Girls – and while the Atlanta folk pop duo is still going strong, she’s finally done something she’s been meaning to do for a long time: Saliers’ first solo record, “Murmuration Nation,” is out today.
The “City Lights” staff is both honored and humbled that Saliers chose to speak with host Lois Reitzes on the day of her album release for an extended interview and listening session.
While many are calling this album “surprising,” Reitzes remarked that “unexpected” may be a better word. According to Saliers, what distinguishes “Murmuration Nation” is “the focus on the beats, the rhythm and the groove.”
Two of the album’s tracks – “Sad One” and “Train Inside” – sound like potential emotional centerpieces of a contemporary American musical. Saliers admitted that she has indeed toyed with the idea:
“I feel like this is a time of great growth for me and excitement and gratitude for all the opportunities that life is offering, and I’d like to just be ready and open to whatever inspiration comes along, and I can see a musical fitting into that.”
