In 1963 after basic officer training, Murray Friedman was stationed in Germany.

As a Jewish man, he was hesitant about how he would be received by the Germans. He found his German counterparts to be warm and welcoming, save one particular officer.

In the StoryCorps Atlanta booth, he tells his son about a time when he was called to this person’s office in December of that year. Here’s Murray. Please bear in mind that he has a touch of laryngitis.
