John Lennon’s Artwork Makes Its Atlanta Debut

John Lennon will always be most remembered as a Beatle.

However, the legendary Liverpudlian also was a best-selling author and an accomplished artist.

Some of his artwork will be on display at the Ann Jackson Gallery in Roswell this weekend.

That includes a drawing Lennon called “Suddenly 38.”

“It’s a drawing of him, and he has his hand on his chin and he wrote on the original drawing, ‘And then suddenly, I was 38.’  I think everyone of us can relate and empathize with that. There’s a time when you look yourself in the mirror and say ‘Where did all those years go,’” says Lynne Clifford, the director of Bag One Arts.

One of the more popular ─ and chart-topping ─ songs that Lennon wrote for the Beatles was “All You Need is Love,” and love appears to be one of the main themes of his artwork.

“You know, there’s one that’s called ‘Forever Love’ and on that he wrote, ‘Born 1940. Lived. Met Yoko Ono 1966!’ It’s like his life really began when he met her. I think that’s a beautiful sentiment,” says Clifford.

The exhibit ends Sunday.
