Congressman John Lewis may soon see his name on a prominent Atlanta street.
An Atlanta City Council Committee approved an ordinance Tuesday that would turn “Freedom Parkway” into “John Lewis Freedom Parkway.”
The name change would apply only to the stretch between Boulevard and Ponce De Leon Avenue.
Council Member Andre Dickens, who sponsored the ordinance, told fellow council members the renaming would happen in conjunction with an art exhibit in the congressman’s honor at the airport.
The proposal is set to go before the full City Council at the meeting next week, Nov. 20.
