Laura Morelli’s latest novel, “The Night Portrait,” is a dual timeline, historical novel about the creation and preservation of Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “Lady with an Ermine.”

The story follows two women separated by five centuries, who both are tied to the work.

The first part takes place in Milan in 1492 telling how one woman becomes friends with and the subject of da Vinci. The other half tells the story of how the painting was saved from Nazis in Munich during World War II.

Morelli joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to talk about the novel and the importance of history.
