Local Internal Medicine Doctor Discusses The Well-Being Of Healthcare Workers Amid Ongoing Pandemic

A local doctor says he’s witnessed a lot of suffering and the COVID-19 pandemic is still real.

“The Delta variant is causing patients, younger patients to become very ill,” said Dr. Dhaval Desai. “It’s not something to be ignored. It’s something that we have to pay attention to and listen to our healthcare workers.”

Desai, an internal medicine/pediatrics specialist and director of hospital medicine at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, was a guest on Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

He talked with show host Rose Scott about several topics, including the increase in new hospitalizations due to the new strain, the health crisis’ overall impact on the well-being of healthcare workers and the threat of the pandemic becoming an endemic.

“The reality is if we don’t have increase vaccination, COVID is here to stay. It’s going to mutate from Delta into something else,” said Desai.
