As 2015 comes to a close, we asked reporters and producers about what big topics they plan to track in 2016.

Reporter Molly Samuel says she’s got her eye on energy including the two new nuclear units being built at Georgia’s Plant Vogtle.

“That progress has been slow, the construction has been delayed a couple times,” she says. “So just watching the progress there. The state has a big plan for expanding solar power, and so watching how that progress plays out, and if they can actually achieve the goals that they have. Also coal, what’s the future of coal-fired energy in the state as the Obama administration moves to minimize coal in the overall energy future of the country.”

Samuel says she is also watching water.

“What’s going to happen in the water wars? Right now Florida is suing Georgia in the U.S. Supreme Court,” Samuel says. “It looks like the states may be moving towards mediation instead of solving that fight in the courts. And so we’ll see what happens there.”

We will hear from more WABE reporters in the coming days on what big stories they plan to follow in 2016.
