Looking Forward To 2016: The Presidential Race Heats Up

Andrew Harnik / Associated Press

What is coming up in 2016? We have been asking WABE’s newsroom staff what stories they anticipate will be big in the next few months.

Reporter Johnny Kauffman says he is watching the presidential race and the March 1 primary because there’s still a big Republican field. Many Southern states will also be voting earlier.

“And that means that the South potentially this year could really have a say as to who the Republican nominee is,” Kauffman says. “And that will be interesting to see how that plays out and how Georgians get involved – if we see a lot more people go out to vote or not, or whether the South even ends up mattering. We’re not sure about that yet either, but the point is a lot of presidential candidates are visiting and there’s a lot more attention in the South this year than there has in past elections.”

We will post more thoughts from WABE’s reporters in the coming days on what issues they expect to be big in 2016.
