Marietta Cancer Charity Ransacked, Diamond Necklace Stolen

Authorities say someone broke into the safe at the Loving Arms Cancer Outreach in Marietta, making off with a $5,000 diamond necklace which had been donated so it could be auctioned as a fundraiser for the nonprofit.

Shay Trayler, president and co-founder of the group that supports cancer patients in Marietta and the surrounding area, said she found the office ransacked and the necklace gone when she entered the office near WellStar Kennestone Hospital on Saturday.

Trayler tells The Marietta Daily Journal that she was preparing for the organization’s Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball when she found the crime scene.

The organization was founded by Trayler and Diana Hurst, both oncology nurses, in 2011.

Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin said police are investigating.
