A metro Atlanta-based school accrediting agency, AdvancEd, announced Tuesday it will merge with New Hampshire-based testing organization Measured Progress.

AdvancEd oversees the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which accredits schools and districts across the country. Measured Progress collaborates with states and districts to develop standards-based assessments.

Dr. Mark Elgart is the president and CEO of AdvancEd. He will assume the same role in the new organization.

The future is about the middle ground, where we’re going to merge together and provide the support for — really an innovative approach — to continuous improvement,” he said. “That is where we believe the future will hold for both organizations while we maintain our flagship businesses.”

Elgart said the new agency will combine resources to help schools with improvement efforts. The merger will become official July 1.

The newly formed organization doesn’t have a name yet.
