Metro Atlanta Preps For Rain and Snow

Forecasters are calling for a rain and snow mix to hit central and north Georgia starting tonight.
Cobb County transportation workers have been pre-treating bridges since 10 this morning. The brine workers spread out can prevent snow from turning into ice for up to two days.
Bill Shelton is the division manager for Cobb’s DOT. He said the county bought more equipment three years ago after Snowmaggedon.
“We can treat the whole county, all our arterial and secondary roads within 8 hours,” Shelton said. “Before the storm, it took us a day or two to treat the roads.”
Catherine Howden with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency said GDOT is also starting brining operation tonight that will last through tomorrow.
Fulton, DeKalb and Gwinnett County officials say they are monitoring the weather and have transportation crews on standby.
