That’s down half a point from March 2016.

“We have 103,000 more jobs today than we had at this same time last year, which is right at a 4 percent job growth over the year,” state Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said.

Atlanta employers added 9,800 new jobs last month, pushing the total number of positions to 2,726,000.  That helped the metro Atlanta area set a new record for over-the-year job creation.

“We’ve seen over 5 percent job growth in five different sectors in the Atlanta market, sectors like professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, financial activities, telecommunications and, as to no surprise, construction which had over an 8 percent job growth over the year,” Butler said.

The lowest area jobless rate in Georgia is in metro Gainesville, at 4 percent, the highest is in the River Valley region at 6.1 percent.

Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March was 5.1 percent, down nearly half a point over a 12-month period.
