A globally renowned scholar on the topics of race, religion and culture says Black people are living through a syndemic; the COVID-19 pandemic and a racial pandemic.

“A pandemic of race and a pandemic of the virus comes to the same conclusion, and so we are in a year, at the end of it, that has been marked and marred by such trauma, but yet the human spirit rises, the determination to keep going is reasserted, said Michael Eric Dyson.

The veteran professor, activist, minister and author of more than 20 books made those remarks speaking with show host Rose Scott on Monday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

During the virtual conversation, The New York Times Best-selling author talked candidly with Scott about several topics, including, the presidential election, the police killings of multiple unarmed Black men and women that sparked global protests, antiblackness and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dyson also discussed his latest book, LONG TIME COMING: Reckoning with Race in America, and how he hopes the five-chapter book helps Americans reckon with racism and begin the journey to social redemption.
