As the city where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born, Atlanta is a city with a unique perspective on MLK Day.

This year’s holiday comes just days after the city collectively responded to President-elect Donald Trump, after he tweeted that Rep. John Lewis is “all talk, talk, talk” and that his district, which includes Atlanta, is “in horrible shape and falling apart.” Along with King, Lewis was a leader in the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

Atlantans have gathered downtown for a “March and Rally” organized by the MLK March Committee, beginning at Baker and Peachtree streets and continuing through the neighborhood.
