Moving Toward Hope: Portrait of a Music Therapist

Clients at a local nonprofit residential mental health center face some tough issues.

Clients at Skyland Trail grapple with diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe depression, and substance abuse, spend much of their days in intense talk therapy. 

But there’s another part of treatment that’s about getting out of their heads.  Jeff Barnes leads the facility’s music therapy classes. Producer Kate Sweeney paid him a visit, and brought us this sound portrait.
