Mozley Park homeowners are divided on whether or not the Westside neighborhood that sits 3 miles west of downtown Atlanta should be renamed.
Research suggests the neighborhood — with a design style like most early 20th-century residential neighborhoods — is named after the original landowner, Dr. Hiram Mozley, a Confederate veteran and inventor.
Mozley’s heirs inherited the land after his death in 1902 and, according to the National Park Service, in 1922, Mozley Park residents asked the Atlanta City Council to purchase the estate.
