New Staff, Same Challenges for Georgia’s Child Welfare System: A Talk with New DFCS Director

On July 16, 2014, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal announced the state will immediately hire 100 new case workers for the Division of Family and Children’s Services, usually called DFCS.  The Governor was responding to continuing reports of children who have been put at risk, and some who have died, in the state’s troubled and overburdened child welfare system.  WABE’s Denis O’Hayer had an extended interview with Bobby Cagle, the new DFCS director, who was appointed by the Governor in June.
