New Voices Coming to WABE
Weekly Radio Show Hosted by Atlanta Dream Co-Owner Renee Montgomery Among Four New Series Coming to WABE Summer 2023
Atlanta (August 1, 2023) — WABE, Atlanta’s choice for NPR and PBS, continues to strengthen its investment in local journalism and amplifying Atlanta’s creative voices. This summer, under its WABE Studios banner, the 90%-community-funded station is rolling out a slate of four new original programs and shows.
Renee Montgomery, WNBA champion and part-owner of the Atlanta Dream, is bringing her acclaimed weekly talk show, Montgomery & Co, to the WABE 90.1 radio lineup Saturdays, beginning August 12. Also this summer, WABE Studios is adding three new podcasts — The Boom, Calls for Justice, and Wake Up and Create — to its podcast network and premiering three Season 4 bonus episodes of the Peabody Award-winning podcast Buried Truths.
The Boom is hosted by Atlanta native Jewel Wicker, an award-winning journalist whose profiles have run in GQ, Billboard, NBC News, The New York Times and Teen Vogue, where she served as interim managing editor. Podcast fans will recognize Wicker from her AMBIE and Webby award-winning turn as co-host and writer on the Crooked Media/Tenderfoot TV podcast “Gaining Ground: The New Georgia.”
“We are thrilled notable Atlanta voices like Renee Montgomery and Jewel Wicker see the value of partnering with WABE and our mission to inform, inspire, reflect, and empower our community,” says Jennifer Dorian, President/CEO of WABE. “In our 75th year serving Atlanta, WABE remains dedicated to amplifying Atlanta’s diverse narratives and talented creators. This slate of new shows is a taste of the inclusive, informative — and entertaining — programming the Greater Atlanta community can expect from WABE in the years to come.”
“I firmly believe that moments pave the way for momentum, and this particular moment fills me with immense gratitude,” says Montgomery. “It is an honor to join the esteemed ranks of WABE contributors. My hope is to bring compelling stories that inspire and ignite meaningful conversations while providing some fun along the way!”
