When Linda Vaughn and Jeffrey McIntyre sat down to record this StoryCorps, they hadn’t seen each other in 20 years.
Linda was the founding director of the Atlanta Feminist Women’s Choir, and Jeffrey was the founding director of the Atlanta Gay Men’s Choir.
Both choirs began in the early 1980s and unfortunately were tragically impacted by the AIDS epidemic.
Linda and Jeffrey looked back on the importance of that time and remark on how necessary the community that the choirs create still is today.
This story was produced locally by Stephen Key. StoryCorps is produced in partnership with the ATL History Center. To learn more and to find additional stories from Atlanta, go to WABE.org/storycorps.
