How many years have you been in Atlanta?
“18.”
Why is the work WABE does in amplifying Atlanta vital to our communities?
“The Atlanta community depends on WABE to understand what is happening in the areas that are often overlooked, but still vital to us all. Not just for news, but original content, the arts, people, local politics, and other current events.
The reason is because the goal of WABE is to produce what is best for the COMMUNITY, not the bottom line. When you are driving towards that singular and selfless goal, the entire community benefits, and it sparks thought and meaningful conversation.”
What’s your favorite part about being a part of the WABE team?
“There are only a handful of careers where people choose that path not because of the money, job security, or prestige. Teachers, social workers, nurses, are a few. Another one is working for public media, especially those at WABE.
I wish I possessed that same determination and resolve as the staff at WABE, but as part of the Board of Directors I am honored to witness, learn, and be inspired by them.
The constant reminder to put the community first and self-interest second helps me, and others, become a better person.”
What makes Atlanta “Atlanta”? What makes the Greater Metro area special?
“Only in Atlanta can a newcomer to the city fall in love with listening to Lois Reitzes every morning in 2004, only to be involved with WABE as a volunteer Board member years later! Atlanta may be a large and growing city, but it is easy to make a meaningful difference. People who have the means are wasting an opportunity – responsibility even – if they are not getting involved to make metro Atlanta better for everyone. There is no excuse.”
