Levon Biss

Levon Biss is a world-renowned British photographer. He has spent his career photographing a wide variety of different subjects, from soccer to portraits of people such as Quentin Tarantino and sprinter Usain Bolt. His work has appeared on the Covers of GQ magazine and The New York Times.

Biss’ most recent work fuses his love of nature and photography in a project he is calling “Microsculpture.” Insects are the subject of choice for this project. Each image in the project is a culmination of more than four weeks of work, produced from thousands of individual photographs. These photographs are compiled into one image and blown up in a large scale format.

Biss’ “Microsculpture” images are now being shown at Atlanta’s Fernbank Museum in their outdoor nature gallery. Images on display will include 11 different species, ranging from the Amazonian Purple Warrior Scarab to the Tortoise Beetle, all shown in intricate detail.

Biss joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to talk about his work and where his love for bugs began.

The exhibition runs through May 2.
