City Lights: Producer Myke Johns Looks Back On 13 Years At WABE

May 20, 2019

Monday on “City Lights with Lois Reitzes” we listen back to just a few of the stories that came from producer Myke Johns over the 13 years he has been at WABE. Johns departs for a new opportunity at the end of this week:

  • 1:13: Producer Myke Johns goes on a drop with local artist Catlanta.
  • 6:14: John visits the Central Outreach and Advocacy Center’s Art Ministry, which offers art classes to homeless men.
  • 14:42: Johns explores the folklore, urban legends and actual history surrounding Al Capone’s time in Atlanta.
  • 22:37: In 2009 the Decatur Book Fest hosted a wrestling match between author Michael Muhammad Knight and wrestler Abdullah the Butcher. Johns was ringside to cover the event.
  • 27:40: Johns reports on an outlandish bit of audience disruption at Atlanta’s Shakespeare Tavern.
  • 33:40: National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo, takes place every November. In 2013, Johns followed two participating writers through the month.
  • 41:33: Dad’s Garage improvisers remember the worst scene that has ever been performed on their stage, a nightmare that involved Genghis Kahn, France and a lot of booing.
  • 49:35: Johns thanks listeners for the past 13 years at WABE and briefly chats with Rose Scott, host of “Closer Look,” about his time at the station.
