November 29, 2019

Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, on “Closer Look with Rose Scott:”

  • 0:00: Today’s edition of “Closer Look with Rose Scott” focuses on Atlantans who are using their passions to give back globally. We begin the program with Dr. Ben Stong, owner of Kalos Facial Plastic Surgery, who spoke with Rose Scott earlier this year after returning from a trip to Peru, where he performed facial reconstructive surgeries for children.
  • 17:04: The history of the “Fair Trade Movement” dates backs to the 1940s and ’50s when the United States began buying needlework from Puerto Rico. Since then, it has grown to an international movement, including millions of farmers and workers around the globe. Here in Atlanta, one local entrepreneur has started a home goods business using items sourced from artists and craft-makers throughout the world. In this next installment of “Closer Look’s” ongoing “Open for Business” series, we head to Ponce City Market to meet LaToya Tucciarone at her shipping container store SustainAble Home Goods And Accessories.
  • 38:40: We conclude the program with a conversation Joel Jassu, a recent graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, or Georgia Tech. When he joined “Closer Look with Rose Scott” in-studio, on an earlier edition of the program, Joel talked about his plans to use his new master’s degree in architecture to redesign and refurbish projects in Uganda and his journey to Georgia Tech.

“Closer Look” is produced by Candace Wheeler and Grace Walker. Joy Barge is a contributing producer.
