- 08:39: The Just Health Summit is a two-day event dedicated to examining health equity and its intersection with climate justice and other equity topics including the urban and rural divide. Arlene Parker-Goldson, Just Health director with the Partnership for Southern Equity, joins “Closer Look” in studio ahead of the event, which kicks off Oct. 25 at the Loudermilk Center in Atlanta.
- 32:59: Journalist Kathryn Johnson, one of the few women who covered the civil rights movement, died today. She was 93 years old. As a reporter for The Associated Press, Johnson was welcomed into the circle of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and was the only journalist allowed in his home the day he was assassinated. Last year, “Closer Look” host Rose Scott visited Johnson at her home as part of WABE’s ATL1968 series for a conversation about her legacy. Today, we revisit that conversation.
- 44:02: Local hiker and business owner Lisa Simmons visited “Closer Look” over the summer with plans to hike Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for BlazeSports, a nonprofit that provides sports equipment for people with disabilities. Today, she joins us after successfully completing the hike to share her experience.
