Doug Shipman, the founding CEO for the Center for Civil and Human Rights and former CEO of the Woodruff Arts Center, will be sworn in as Atlanta City Council president on Jan. 3.

He succeeds Felicia Moore, who ran for mayor instead of seeking re-election. Despite never having held political office, Shipman earned the most votes in both the general election and the runoff, defeating longtime councilwoman Natalyn Archibong.

Shipman joined “Morning Edition” to talk about how he envisions his role as City Council president.
