Today, a German luxury car maker broke ground near Atlanta’s airport.

The ceremonial event celebrated Porsche moving its North American headquarters from North Fulton County to South Fulton County.

Porsche had its North American headquarters in Sandy Springs. But, in May of last year, the company announced it was moving to Hapeville. The new location is so close to Hartsfield-Jackson International, planes buzz over the site.

It’s also very close to I-75 south of Atlanta. Proximity to the airport and the Interstate helped convince the company to settle in the same area were Ford once built the Taurus and the Mercury Sable.

As for Porsche, the company will use part of the 26 acre site as a track where people will be able to test drive their 911 2-seaters among other models.

In all, 400 people are expected to work at the headquarters. Officials say 100 of those jobs will be new.

The headquarters is expected to be done in 2014.
