President Obama Commutes Sentences Of 2 Georgia Inmates

President Barack Obama has cut prison sentences for two federal Georgia inmates as part of a larger effort to ease the punishment of those serving more time than their crimes warranted.

Officials said in a statement Monday that sentences have been commuted for Katrina Stuckey Smith of Montrose and Bruce Todd of Atlanta.

Smith was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and cocaine base substances. Her initial 292-month sentence was amended to 20 years in April 2008. Smith is now scheduled to be released in November.

Bruce Todd was sentenced in 2003 to 21 years and 10 months in prison on crack cocaine distribution charges. Todd is now scheduled to be released Nov. 10.

Todd and Smith were two of 46 convicts whose sentences were commuted.
