As he headed from the convention to a fundraiser for Karen Handel, the Republican candidate for the 6th district Congressional seat, he was met with protestors.

More than 50 people protested outside the fundraiser at the Capitol City Club in downtown Atlanta, including Elizabeth Murphy of East Cobb, who was protesting Handel’s alliance with President Trump.

“I think it’s very interesting that she’s choosing to tie herself in with an administration that is so much against women’s rights,” Murphy said.

Demonstrators were protesting a variety of issues, including the defunding of Planned Parenthood, the Trump administration’s stance on climate change, and hate speech.

Another protestor, Jenny McDonnell of Roswell, said she is protesting President Trump himself.

“I have been very discouraged over the past couple of months seeing how our fellow Americans have treated each other. Kindness seems to be lacking these days,” McDonnell said.

Robert Hampton lives in Atlanta and held a “United Against Hate” poster in the crowd. He said he was on his way to the library when he saw protestors in the street.

“I wanted to be active, so I started talking and it was something I wanted to do as far as time,” Hampton said. “And I say this is common sense. I don’t have any hate in my heart, or too much hate for reasons like this.”

The NRA convention continues through Sunday, and more protests are expected this weekend.
