ATLANTA, GA: WABE 90.1 will host a debate on Thursday, June 8 between Republican Karen Handel and Democrat Jon Ossoff, the candidates squaring off in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District runoff election. The debate will last one hour and will be broadcast live on WABE 90.1 beginning at 9 a.m. It will also stream live via WABE.org and on the WABE app. Also, the debate will be televised on PBA30 that evening at 7 p.m. and will re-air on WABE at 7 p.m.
WABE’s “Morning Edition” host, Denis O’Hayer, will moderate the debate, which will take place at Public Broadcasting Atlanta Studios and will include questions from the public, sent in via WABE’s website and social media channels.
“This is an important election in our community with passionate followers on both sides,” said Wonya Lucas, CEO of Public Broadcasting Atlanta. “It is part of our mission to bring our listeners and viewers the best information possible so they can make informed decisions. Therefore, we are happy to welcome Karen Handel and Jon Ossoff to our studios and our airwaves to explain their positions on the issues that are vitally important to Georgia voters.”
Georgia’s 6th Congressional District covers many of the northern suburbs of Atlanta, including parts of Cobb, DeKalb and Fulton counties.
The hotly-contested race between Handel and Ossoff will be decided in a run-off election on June 20. In the special election held on April 18, Ossoff received 48.1 percent of the vote, but fell short of the majority needed to win the seat outright. Handel took second place with 19.8 percent of the vote.
