One of the nation’s largest homebuilders is moving its corporate headquarters from the Detroit area to Atlanta.

PulteGroup is expected to bring more than 300 jobs when it arrives here next summer.

The company decided to move as more of its customers have been based in the Southeast over the past several years, said Valerie Dolenga, a spokeswoman for PulteGroup.

“Atlanta is a great hub for us to office our operations, and gives us easy access to a lot of the major markets that we build in,” she said.

The company’s new headquarters will take up to 100,000 square-feet of office space in Buckhead.

In a statement, Mayor Kasim Reed said the relocation was rare for a company regularly ranked on the Fortune 500 list, and that it proves the city is attracting more investment.

“It will solidify our strength as a leading city for business, from transnational and national corporations to entrepreneurial start-ups,” Reed said.

PulteGroup was founded in 1950 and employs more than 3000 people across 28 states.
