‘Queer History Live’ Tackles Comedy With Historical Twist

“Right after the Pulse shooting, what I saw on social media was a lot of queer people who didn’t have a context for this terrible tragedy, and it was horrible. It was a horrible tragedy,” said Ian Aber, who was a finalist on NBC’s “Stand Up For Diversity” and has also produced several popular comedy shows around Atlanta like “Date Night” and “Urban Tree Comedy.”

Aber realized there was a lack of knowledge about queer history and wanted to change that. He decided to blend stand-up with queer history, and so was born “Queer History Live.”

“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with Aber and Atlanta comedian Andrew Markle about the show and their experiences being gay comedians in the South.

“Queer History Live” takes the Relapse Theatre stage for its second installment Friday, June 29. The show starts at 8 p.m. You can find tickets and more information here.
