Smith’s Olde Bar Wins A Few More Months In Morningside
Smith’s Olde Bar will remain open in Atlanta’s Morningside neighborhood at least through the end of the year according to Dan Nolen, the operator of the longtime night spot.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Nolen says he has worked out a deal with his landlord for an extension of the lease. In April, the club got an eviction notice, as the property that houses Smith’s and other businesses is now for sale.
Smith’s has been hosting live music at the Piedmont Avenue location for more than 20 years. Nolen says he hopes to work out a long-term lease with the new owner.
Smith’s is just one of Atlanta’s established night spots looking at changes.
The Clermont Hotel on Ponce de Leon Avenue is in the process of being transformed into a boutique property, according to developer Ethan Orley. The Clermont Lounge, which is the city’s oldest strip club and makes many “must see in Atlanta” lists, is in the basement of the hotel. Orley says, despite the hotel renovation, the lounge will stay intact.
The land on which The Masquerade music venue sits in Old Fourth Ward has been sold to developers, and the club’s operators said earlier this month they are working on a plan to keep it open, though they did not say it would stay at the North Avenue location.
Manuel’s Tavern on North Highland Avenue in Poncey-Highland will close while a mixed-use development is built above it. The Maloof family, who own Manuel’s, say the bar will reopen in its original condition once the development is complete.
