The West End MARTA station is about to get a new addition: two new soccer fields. It’s part of a collaboration between Atlanta United, MARTA, the city of Atlanta and a program called Soccer in the Streets.

Sanjay Patel, Soccer in the Street’s director of strategic projects, came up with the idea hoping to make soccer more accessible in Atlanta.

“We just want to have more people have access to these fields and programs and to learn about the game and play it and just become better adults through playing the sport,” Patel said.

This is not the first field of its kind in Atlanta. Soccer in the Streets opened a similar field in 2016 at MARTA’s Five Points Station.

The Five Points Field and West End fields will be “the world’s first network of soccer fields inside the perimeter of major transit stations,” according to a press release from Soccer in the Streets.

The pitches will be unveiled on Sept. 8 at 3 p.m.
