Fulton County's special purpose grand jury, led by District Attorney Fani Willis
The special purpose grand jury taking place in Fulton County is investigating whether former President Donald Trump and his allies broke Georgia laws in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.
Since his loss in the 2020 presidential election, Trump and his allies have spread disinformation about election fraud taking place. Across the country, no voter fraud sufficient enough to affect the outcome of the election was found.
In January 2021, Trump called Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger asking him to “find 11,780 votes” for him in an attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in the state. This prompted the SPGJ investigation, led by Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis.
The grand jury, seated by 23 grand jurors, cannot indict or charge any individuals in the investigation. They can only give recommend whether or not an individual should be prosecuted in a criminal court.
Update: The special grand jury was dissolved on Jan. 9, 2023.
