State Tax Overhaul Clears Important Hurdle In Georgia Legislature

Lawmakers are in session Friday working on legislation related to regional transit and gun-related issues ahead of next week’s Crossover Day deadline.

Normally state lawmakers are not in full session on Fridays, but this week they’re facing an important deadline. Crossover Day, the deadline for bills to make it through at least one chamber of the legislature, is next week.

A bill that would give Georgians a substantial tax cut has cleared an important hurdle, but state lawmakers are still working on a regional transit bill. And in the wake of last week’s school shooting in Florida, there’s a renewed focus on gun-related bills.

WABE’s politics and government reporter Johnny Kauffman joined Denis O’Hayer on “Morning Edition” to talk about what lawmakers have been working on this week.
