Warm Memories Of Overseas Modeling Work During The Cold War
Jacqueline Chester, 79, was a teenager when she realized she had model potential.
She participated in several fashion shows in her native New York before being invited to model for a seven-week stint overseas.
In the StoryCorps Atlanta booth, she tells her 20-year-old granddaughter, Victoria Vassel, about a rather unusual job for a young African-American woman to take during the early years of the Cold War.
This story was recorded in partnership with the Atlanta History Center, which hosts Atlanta’s StoryCorps Booth
