A Talk with Fulton County Commission Chair John Eaves, Pt. 2: Grady, Outsourcing, Legal Fights

Jason Parker/WABE News

In part two of our conversation, Fulton County Commission Chairman John Eaves said the County will have to cut some programs and outsource others to address a money crunch.

The funding crisis is partly the result of efforts to meet the requirements of a consent decree, in which the county agreed to address chronic overcrowding at the Fulton County Jail.

In addition, this year Governor Nathan Deal signed several bills passed by the Legislature, which redrew the County Commission’s district lines and imposed a 2-year property tax freeze on the Fulton County.

Eaves talked about possible legal challenges to the new laws, and possible cuts in county support of another financially-challenged insitution, Grady Memorial Hospital.
