A Talk With Outgoing U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, Part One

Georgia’s senior U.S. Senator, Republican Saxby Chambliss, will leave office at the end of 2014. Chambliss decided not to seek re-election.

In part 1 of a conversation with WABE’s Denis O’Hayer, Chambliss talked about the reasons for his decision, his frustration with the last few years of gridlock in Congress, and the controversial ad that was part of his successful 2002 campaign to unseat then-Senator Max Cleland.

(Note:  The expanded version includes Sen. Chambliss’s thoughts on whether he would have won re-election, had he decided to run, and on his work with the “Gang of Six,” the bipartisan group of Senators that proposed a comprehensive debt reduction plan in 2011.  Part 2 of the interview will appear on Tuesday, Dec. 9.)Broadcast VersionExpanded Version
