A Talk With Outgoing U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss, Part Two

Georgia’s senior U.S. Senator, Republican Saxby Chambliss, will leave office at the end of 2014. Chambliss decided not to seek re-election.

In part two of a conversation with WABE’s Denis O’Hayer, Chambliss looked back at his work on the Senate Intelligence Committee, where he is the ranking Republican member.  Chambliss discussed his working relationship with the committee chair, Democrat Diane Feinstein of California, and the complex decisions facing the U.S. in its battle with ISIS.

(Two notes:  The conversation with Sen. Chambliss took place on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014 -before it was known that the Intelligence Committee report on CIA interrogation techniques was to be released.  In a floor speech on Tuesday, Dec. 9, Chambliss sharply disagreed with the majority’s findings that the CIA violated U.S. law and used torture in its interrogations of terror suspects following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.  Secondly, the expanded version of part two includes Chambliss’s thoughts on the choices facing the U.S. in Syria; he also talks about his plans for his life after the Senate.)Broadcast VersionExpanded Version
